New Worker's Songbook

from: 1 September 2010 to 1 September 2011

DodoLab has been collaborating with Hamilton (Canada) artist, musician and songwriter Tor Lukasik-Foss (aka Tiny Bill Cody) on the creation of A New Workers Songbook. The project was originally commissioned by the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre (WAHC) and was based on their collection of books and recordings of songs that reflect Hamilton's history of industry and organized labour. The goal of this ongoing project is to create songs about current realities for working people in Hamilton and in other communities where we are working, including Windsor and Sudbury. The next phase of the project will take place in collaboration with the Print Studio on James Street North in Hamilton, Summer 2011. In addition to working on songs, and methods for song writing, Lukasik-Foss also designed, built and has employed in public the Mobile Workers Song Cart for this program.
