LIGHT MOTIVES:
AN EXPLORATION OF KITCHENER’S PAST FUTURE & FUTURE PAST

Light Motives: Kitchener’s Past Future and Future Past is an exhibition that explored the city’s past, present and future and reflected upon how ideas about the past and future have changed throughout history. Using surveys that focussed on the iconography, sites and events that have come to define the city both officially and in the popular imagination, this project captured and shared the contemporary public’s ideas of the past and the future of the city. Historical documents and works from the collection framed this contemporary public portrait in the future imaginings of earlier times. As commemorative mug for the future distilled the collected opinions into a sharable format that will hopefully be found in future cupboards, sharing how people of the past imagined what was to come.
